Starting school in Dubai? New sessions support children of determination

For families welcoming a child of determination into the world of education, the journey can be both exciting and daunting. In Dubai, the Dubai Child Development Centre, partnered with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has introduced a series of sessions designed to ease this transition. Known as School Preparation and Readiness sessions, the initiative aims to boost the confidence and independence of children with special needs and their families as they step into school and nursery life.

These sessions are held at Al Safa and Al Rashidiya Libraries and cater to children already enrolled at the Centre. Rather than a uniform approach, each child undergoes an individualized plan tailored to their unique needs and abilities. The curriculum encompasses various aspects, including academic skills, social development, communication, and everyday life skills that make the shift to a classroom setting more manageable.

Parents are not left out of the process; they are actively involved as partners in their children's educational journey. This approach aligns with the Community Development Authority's broader efforts to create a supportive social ecosystem. Dr Sheikha Al Mansoori, Acting Director of the Department of People of Determination at the CDA, emphasizes that school readiness is crucial for the overall development of a child.

A nurturing environment introduced early on not only builds confidence and abilities but also ensures a positive integration into both the educational setting and the wider community.

Dr. Al Mansoori stated, "We believe that empowering children of determination begins with responding to their individual needs through specialized services and effective partnerships that provide equal opportunities for learning and participation." This statement underscores the CDA's commitment to supporting these children and their families, enhancing their readiness to transition into educational environments with confidence and independence.

The sessions are part of a larger vision for Dubai, as outlined in the Dubai Social Agenda 33, aiming for a more inclusive, cohesive, and prosperous community.
