Soldier remanded over accidental shooting of colleague in Port Dickson

A soldier in his 20s has been granted a three-day remand by a Seremban court following an incident at a shooting range near Hutan Menyala, Port Dickson. The suspect, identified as being in his 20s, is accused of discharging a firearm, resulting in injury to a colleague. Negri Sembilan deputy police chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasharudin Mohd Shariff, announced the remand order, which begins today and runs until August 15 to allow for a thorough investigation.

The victim, who is currently in stable condition, is receiving treatment at Tuanku Ja'far Hospital following the incident, but the exact extent of his injuries remains undisclosed as the official medical report awaits. Police have seized a firearm believed to be linked to the event, though they have not disclosed the specific type of weapon.

The case is being probed under Sections 37 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 337 of the Penal Code. Further inquiries are being conducted to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident, which reportedly occurred around 2:15 pm yesterday when several personnel were present at the location.
