SHA announces payment of pending NHIF claims worth Ksh10M and below

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has confirmed the processing of pending medical claims totaling Ksh10 million and below dating back to the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). In a notice posted on August 12, 2026, SHA explained that these payments will be distributed in four stages after a verification and approval process has been completed.

The organization stated that the first batch of payments has already been processed, and a list of the healthcare facilities involved has been made available on the SHA website. SHA emphasized that the purpose of this initiative is to help healthcare providers cope with delays in receiving payments inherited from NHIF. Facilities that need to provide additional information or documents to support their claims are encouraged to work closely with SHA's verification teams.

SHA has called on healthcare providers to cooperate fully with the verification process in order to facilitate the completion of the claim payment procedures. The phased payment scheme will continue with subsequent batches following the completion of the necessary checks and approvals. This move follows criticism of delays in clearing NHIF claims and system issues that have hampered the transition to SHA.
