Serious allegations in report on Messi event; govt examining it: Kerala CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has stated that there are serious allegations in a report from the state Sports Department regarding efforts to bring football legend Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team to the region during the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's rule. The report alleges that the government failed to consider the market value, financial capacity, or source of funds of the company awarded permission for the event.

Satheesan said the government is thoroughly examining the report and that appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings. The Kerala CM also expressed doubt about whether the state government had been fully aware of the proposal's aspects, as conflicting statements emerged from various sources. Moreover, he confirmed that there were GST-related irregularities linked to the sponsorship payment, including potential evasion, which was uncovered during the previous administration.

The Finance Department will investigate the matter to recoup any losses and examine officials' alleged negligence.
