Rivian refreshes its 2027 R1 lineup with new trims and a big seating upgrade

Rivian has refreshed its 2027 R1 lineup with new trims and a significant seating upgrade. The R1S now offers optional second-row captain's chairs, while the entire R1 lineup adopts a simplified trim structure and introduces a new paint color. Pricing remains unchanged, with the R1S starting at $83,990 and the R1T at $79,990. After years of complaints about the second-row bench seats, Rivian finally addresses the issue by allowing customers to replace the bench with two individual captain's chairs.

These chairs feature flush armrests, push-to-release cupholders, and full tie-down anchors for child car seats. The upgrade, which costs between $1,500 and $4,500 depending on the interior theme, requires Rivian's $2,500 Sound and Vision package as a prerequisite. Additionally, the R1T receives a new 20-inch Adventure All Season wheel and tire combo, standard on the Premium trim and available as a no-cost option on the Performance trim.

Both models also gain access to Esker Silver, a liquid metal paint finish, replacing the outgoing LA Silver as the standard color across the lineup. These updates are now available for configuration, with deliveries expected later this year.
