Reps order immediate solution to Delta oil spill

The House of Representatives Committee on South-South Development Commission has called for immediate action to address a gas seepage in Bille community of Rivers State and an ongoing oil spill in Odidi Federated Community of Delta State. The Committee's Chairman, Julius Pondi, made the demand during an urgent meeting in Abuja. The two incidents have exposed serious environmental and developmental challenges facing oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region.

It has been nine months since the gas seepage in Bille began, and the Panel is concerned that the issue has not been resolved despite multiple engagements with relevant agencies. During the meeting, representatives of Bille community were given a chance to voice their concerns and indicate the relief measures required.
