Proof of concept launched to advance onboard renewable energy reporting

MarineSolar Energy Solutions and Sustainable Motion have joined forces to create and test a high-frequency energy monitoring system for MarineSolar's NanoDeck platform. Both companies are experts in creating maritime-friendly technologies, which makes this collaboration particularly effective. The partnership aims to help shipowners and charterers accurately monitor, verify, and report onboard renewable energy generation and solar performance through local and cloud-based dashboards.

The proof-of-concept will showcase how well the renewable energy data can be collected, synced, and displayed. It will provide valuable insights into fuel consumption, emissions, and operating cost reductions, as well as performance trends to support ongoing optimization. Ultimately, the findings will shape the development of a commercial monitoring and reporting platform.

Joep Groot, MarineSolar's COO, emphasized that while generating renewable energy onboard is important, shipowners and charterers require clear, reliable data to quantify its value. However, monitoring renewable energy at sea is challenging due to the unique environment and constantly changing conditions.

Rob van der Stel, Director at Sustainable Motion, explained that NanoDeck has great potential to provide vessels with clean, renewable electricity. Their role is to make that performance visible and measurable through high-frequency operational data capture, analysis, and presentation. The proof of concept will establish the foundation for a reliable monitoring and reporting platform to support MarineSolar and its customers as they move towards commercial deployment.
