Police intercept suspected AK-47 procurement deal in Kwara

Police authorities in Kwara State have thwarted a potential AK-47 rifle procurement in the Kaiama Local Government Area. Suspected buyer Sanda Aliyu was apprehended following a lead that exposed an illicit arms deal. Anti-Kidnapping Section intelligence indicated Aliyu's negotiations with another individual, Aliyu Mohammed, for the weapon's purchase.

Upon receiving this information, detectives swiftly conducted a targeted operation resulting in Aliyu's arrest before the firearm could be transferred. During questioning, the suspect confessed to his involvement and revealed he had already paid N1.6 million for the rifle. He disclosed his intention to use the weapon to elevate his status within his current kidnapping gang and then separate to form his own criminal organization.

This operation has provided additional insights into the circumstances of the attempted acquisition, identified further individuals linked to the illicit arms transaction, mapped out the extent of the criminal network, and helped uncover broader criminal activities associated with the gang. State Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi, under the strategic direction of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured the public that there would be no cessation in the relentless pursuit of criminal elements.

He pledged that the command would utilize all lawful intelligence and operational resources to ensure the complete security of every community, allowing residents to sleep with "both eyes closed."
