Podolyak: Russia Does Not Want Negotiations, but the U.S. Can Help Stop the War

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian President, stated on the UATV English channel that Russia is not interested in negotiations or ending the conflict. Despite Ukraine's repeated proposals for negotiation formats and ceasefires, supported by European and American partners, Russia remains steadfast in its unwillingness to engage in discussions.

Podolyak dismissed attempts to accommodate Russian demands without assessing their viability and emphasized the need for a genuine mediator who would visit both nations, comprehend the realities on the ground, and explain why certain proposals are unfeasible. He maintained that Ukraine views the United States as a genuine ally and believes Washington possesses the necessary resources and expertise to mediate between the two countries.

Podolyak further suggested that U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner should visit Kyiv, hold meetings, and gain comprehensive insight into Ukraine's circumstances, encompassing battlefield updates and resource requirements. Ukraine believes the United States has the capacity to serve as a proficient mediator in negotiations with Russia and is prepared to succeed in these endeavors.

Podolyak emphasized that European nations should actively collaborate with the United States, while China should acknowledge the potential long-term repercussions of backing Russia. He contended that improved collaboration with Washington could ultimately pave the way for a productive negotiation process, thereby contributing to the cessation of the war's active phase.
