Pacific Games council give Tahiti prep the thumbs-up

The Pacific Games Council has approved Tahiti's preparations for the 2027 Pacific Games, according to Chief Executive Andrew Minogue. Minogue praised Tahiti's efforts in getting the Games ready during a visit to the island last week. The Pacific Games Council held meetings in Papeete, where representatives from the 24 participating nations and territories discussed the Games' progress.

Minogue reported that all facilities should be prepared by the end of the first quarter of 2027. Representatives toured various facilities, including high schools where athletes will be accommodated and competition sites across the island. Some venues are still under construction, including the main athletics track, which will be completed by the end of the year, and several indoor halls requiring renovations.

The Games will also serve as a qualifier for the 2028 Olympic Games and the Oceania Championship for weightlifting. The council will fund two athletes for each member federation to ensure representation, and the 2027 Pacific Games is set to open on July 24 and run until August 8.
