Oyebamiji and His PROSPER Agenda for Osun’s Renewal

The upcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State will see Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), presenting his PROSPER Agenda as a roadmap for the state's development. Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), is expected to build upon the fiscal reforms implemented during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

The APC administration, led by Oyetola between 2018 and 2022, emphasised fiscal discipline and institutional stability. Budget implementation improved, and the state reduced its inherited debt burden by approximately ₦97 billion. The government prioritised economic development, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) through state and federal intervention programmes, resulting in funding of over ₦6.5 billion for more than 31,000 MSMEs.

Investment initiatives, including the Dagbolu International Trade Centre and Dry Port, aimed to stimulate industrial growth and employment.

Infrastructure development was another key focus, with the construction or rehabilitation of over 500 kilometres of roads, upgrades to fire stations, expansion of water supply and electrification in rural areas, and investments in education and healthcare. The administration also established the University of Ilesa, recruited about 2,500 teachers, expanded the O’MEALS school feeding programme, and upgraded specialist health facilities, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oyebamiji's PROSPER Agenda, consisting of seven pillars, aims to alleviate poverty, create jobs, and ensure transparent and accountable governance. It promises to expand opportunities for small businesses, attract investments, strengthen the investment promotion framework, support farmers through technology and financing, and prioritise security, agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

The agenda seeks to build on the APC's previous policy direction while promising inclusive growth, economic revitalisation, and efficient service delivery.
