Osun Guber: Don’t drink alcohol or engage in misconduct – Akwa Ibom CP warns officers

Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner, Mohammed Azare, has cautioned officers assigned to Osun State for the upcoming gubernatorial election to abstain from all forms of misconduct, including the consumption of alcohol, extortion, and intimidation of voters. In a pre-departure briefing, Azare emphasized the importance of adhering to Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu's social media policy, stating that officers must avoid posting, livestreaming, sharing, or distributing any material related to the election that could compromise operational security or tarnish the image of the police force.

Azare confirmed that the Inspector-General has arranged transportation for all personnel deployed from Akwa Ibom to Osun and their return to the state post-election. He instructed officers to utilize only the officially approved transportation arrangements and sternly warned commanders and other personnel against soliciting money from any officer under the pretext of transportation or related expenses.

Any officer found engaging in misconduct, unlawful collection of money, or violating lawful directives would face personal accountability and appropriate disciplinary action, Azare warned. He reiterated that officers are to remain completely neutral and professional, refraining from any acts that could bring the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute and avoid becoming tools for any political party, candidate, or individual.
