NYA engages 200 youth in Ho clean-up exercise

More than 200 young people from Ho participated in a clean-up exercise organized by the National Youth Authority (NYA) to commemorate International Youth Day. The participants focused on cleaning the main market and lorry station, clearing gutters and sweeping the areas. Yao Semorde, the Volta Regional Director of NYA, spoke to the participants after the activity and emphasized the importance of volunteerism and environmental protection.

He also mentioned plans for a tree-planting activity and urged the youth to show patriotism, contribute to national development, and create a better future for Ghana.

An Environmental Health Officer at the Ho Municipal Assembly, Esi Nam Agbakpe, commended the NYA for organizing the clean-up exercise. She stressed that environmental cleanliness should be a shared responsibility between government bodies and individuals, noting that maintaining a clean environment promotes good health and boosts productivity.

Isaac Amenyo, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association, appealed for re-engineering works on the gutter at the lorry station exit to improve environmental sanitation. Amenyo explained that the recent construction of market stores blocked the gutter, causing water accumulation and road flooding.

He noted that attempts to get the Ho Municipal Assembly to restore the free flow of water through the gutter had not been successful.
