NPP’s concerns over AG’s credibility to probe AKSA energy deal baseless – NDC

The NDC has dismissed the NPP's claim that Attorney General Dominic Ayine lacks the credibility to independently investigate allegations surrounding the AKSA Energy Power Project bribery scandal. Private legal practitioner Theophilus Dzimega stated during a JoyFM interview that the opposition's concerns are "baseless, unfounded and without merit".

Dzimega challenged the NPP's criticism of the Attorney General over plea bargaining, suggesting the party should explain its own position on ongoing plea negotiations involving former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi. He defended the Attorney General's cooperation with US authorities in the case involving Asante Kwaku Berko, and pointed out that Berko was appointed during the NPP administration, questioning why the opposition doubts the Attorney General's credibility now.

Dzimega also defended Dr Ayine's decision to discontinue some criminal prosecutions, citing the Attorney General's constitutional powers and referring to the Supreme Court's decision in the Gregory Afoko case. He rejected the suggestion that the Attorney General lacks credibility to investigate politically sensitive allegations, and accused the NPP of preempting the investigation's outcome, urging them to allow the Attorney General to carry out his constitutional mandate.
