Nkwanta South poultry beneficiaries urged to feed birds properly to sustain Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative

Geoffrey Kini, the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta Constituency in Ghana's Oti Region, has called upon beneficiaries of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative to adhere to proper feeding and poultry management practices in order to ensure the long-term success of the program. Kini emphasized that the initiative, part of the government's Feed Ghana Programme, aims to reduce Ghana's reliance on imported frozen chicken and eggs, with an estimated annual expenditure of $350 million to $400 million on such imports.

He argued that by improving poultry management, the initiative could revitalize the local poultry sector, which has historically been a vital source of income and nutrition for rural communities.

Kini urged the beneficiaries to view their birds as valuable business assets and to follow advice from agricultural extension officers. He stressed that the success of the initiative would lead to enhanced household nutrition, sustainable income generation, and more opportunities for women and other vulnerable groups. This launch ceremony, which took place in Brewaniase and Nkwanta, marked the beginning of bird distribution to the beneficiaries.

Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Awal Antwi praised the government for its support and highlighted that the beneficiary selection process was impartial, focusing solely on individual merit. Antwi revealed that 200 households would benefit from the distribution of 20,000 broilers and layers, with agricultural extension officers to be dispatched to offer technical assistance and monitor the program's progress.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and vowed to care for the birds properly, aiming to establish Nkwanta South as a flourishing poultry hub.
