Nexon's Q2 net income up over 70 pct, boosted by flagship MapleStory

South Korea's leading online gaming company Nexon Co. announced a significant surge in its second-quarter net income, increasing by over 70 percent year-over-year. For the April-June period, the firm reported a net profit of 29.6 billion yen (approximately US$185.7 million), up from 16.8 billion yen a year earlier, according to a company release.

Despite a 17 percent decline in operating profit to 31.3 billion yen, sales saw a modest 2 percent growth to 121.1 billion yen, calculated using the dollar-yen exchange rate of 159.4 yen per U.S. dollar as of 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Nexon credited the rise in net profits to the continued success of its flagship franchise, MapleStory, both domestically and internationally, as well as the debut of ARC Raiders in October. The company also highlighted that its operating profit and sales for the first half of the year reached the highest figures in any six-month period. Nexon's strategy to bolster future growth involves diversifying its portfolio through the launch of new games across various genres and expanding its strong-selling IP lineup.
