Rescue 1122 teams have been searching the Muzaffargarh Canal for three days to find three missing children who fell into the canal during a wedding party incident. So far, 12 bodies have been recovered from the canal. The missing children consist of a three-year-old boy and two others aged between eight and ten years. The wedding party, consisting of 24 people, was returning from Lomarwala to Basti Arainwala in Kot Addu when one of the loader-rickshaws fell into the Muzaffargarh Canal near Sheikhoo Sugar Mills in Sanawan.
Nine people, including women and children, were rescued immediately after the accident. Rescuers have extended the search to approximately 61km of the canal using boats and scuba-divers, with contributions from Sanawan, Kot Addu, and Muzaffargarh. An incident command post is being managed by District Emergency Officer Dr Irshadul Haq along the canal.
The canal depth is estimated to be 12 to 15 feet, with a width of 100 to 120 feet and water flow between 2,500 and 4,000 cusecs. A funeral was held for the 12 deceased individuals at Basti Arainwala before their burial in the local graveyard.
