More violence trails Osun guber poll, as APC alleges Accord Party thugs killed DG’s nephew

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state has accused the ruling Accord Party of hiring thugs who killed Dele Ayegbo, the nephew of the party's campaign director-general for the state, Wole Oke. According to the party's spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, Ayegbo was shot and killed in Esa-Oke, Obokun LGA of Osun state on Wednesday night.

The incident allegedly occurred near Ayegbo's house in the Idofin area. Olabisi alleged that Ayegbo was targeted by a hit squad of Accord Party members known for terrorizing APC members and supporters across the state. Two members of the APC were reportedly shot during the incident, with Ayegbo dying at the scene and the other victim receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Olabisi criticized the killing as "one death too many" and demanded a swift investigation by the police. He alleged that over 30 APC members have been killed by political thugs in Osun state since 2022, with Ijesaland witnessing the highest percentage of political killings. Olabisi called on the state police command to act swiftly to prevent further killings, particularly ahead of the upcoming governorship election on Saturday. As of the time of filing, the Osun state police command had not commented on the incident.
