Ministry of Environment and Climate Change spots Seahorse inside Khor Al Adaid reserve

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) recently discovered a seahorse, known locally as Buzaizi, inside the Khor Al Adaid Nature Reserve at Sealine Beach during a survey to identify and monitor marine species and their habitats. This observation confirms the presence of the seahorse in seagrass areas, which are critical habitats for the species.

The field inspection revealed that the site is in excellent environmental condition and fosters a suitable environment for the seahorse's continued existence. Diving teams did not find any evidence of violations or direct environmental damage at the location. The MOECC described the seahorse as a rare marine fish of significant ecological importance and a vital indicator of the marine ecosystem's health.

The presence of the seahorse in Khor Al Adaid Reserve highlights the crucial role of natural habitats, especially seagrass areas, in maintaining biodiversity. The Ministry emphasized the need to protect these habitats, minimize practices that might harm marine life, and enhance monitoring and protection measures to ensure the sustainability of marine species and their habitats, thereby preserving Qatar's rich biodiversity.
