Malaysia - Hong Kong step up fight against cross-border competition breaches

Malaysia and Hong Kong have strengthened their collaboration to combat cross-border competition breaches, as their respective competition authorities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance enforcement, information sharing, and technical expertise. This agreement between the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) and Hong Kong Competition Commission (HKCC) aims to ensure a more effective response to the growing interconnectedness of markets and global business activities.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali highlighted the government's commitment to bolstering international partnerships to uphold fair and healthy competition. The MoU, MyCC's fourth international cooperation agreement, follows partnerships with the Türkiye Competition Authority, Korea Fair Trade Commission, and the Philippine Competition Commission.

Under the agreement, both authorities will exchange information on major developments in competition law, share investigative experiences, collaborate on technical capacity-building through training programs and joint research initiatives, and address cross-border competition issues. The signing ceremony, attended by key officials from both countries, underscores Malaysia's dedication to maintaining a dynamic and competitive business environment while safeguarding consumers and supporting the nation's broader economic interests.
