Magic Madjo grabs headlines after Villa debut worth waiting for against PSG

On August 13, Aston Villa's teenage forward Brian Madjo made a remarkable debut in their UEFA Super Cup loss to Paris St Germain. At just 17, Madjo scored the equalizing goal in the 45th minute, a goal that displayed his perseverance and skill. Standing at six-foot-four, Madjo's physical presence on the field earned him comparisons to football stars Romelu Lukaku and Emile Heskey. Despite struggling to find the back of the net early on, Madjo's determination shone through as he put himself in scoring positions.

Villa signed Madjo from French club Metz on his 17th birthday but faced difficulties in registering him due to FIFA's ruling regarding international transfers. The dispute arose from Madjo playing for Luxembourg, where he grew up, while Villa considered him an English player. Madjo finally received clearance last week after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Villa's appeal. With this, Madjo made his debut against PSG, a back-to-back Champions League winner.

Madjo's first chance came when he passed to John McGinn, who then crossed the ball for the teenager to meet with his captain's header. However, his glancing header went just past the post. Minutes later, Madjo fired a powerful shot wide of the target. After his opening half, Madjo continued to put himself in position to score. Villa's captain, McGinn, praised Madjo's performance, stating that it would have been easy for him to let his head get down after missed chances, but good strikers continue to get themselves in good positions.

Madjo almost turned the ball into a provider shortly after halftime by laying the ball off to McGinn whose strike was saved by goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

PSG took the lead in the 20th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's strike. Desire Doue scored the winning goal for PSG just after the hour mark. Madjo was replaced by 19-year-old midfielder George Hemmings as Emery was impressed by Madjo and Hemmings, noting that they were working hard and close to competing with the team. Despite facing a loss, Madjo demonstrated that he can be a significant player for Villa this season.
