Maahir Patel clinches 2026 Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship

Maahir Patel of Sigona Golf Club has been declared the 2026 NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Champion after a thrilling final against Sigona's own Yuvraj Singh Rajput. The championship, a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, took place at the players' native Sigona Golf Club, making it a particularly significant occasion for Patel.

Patel clinched a 2&1 victory over Rajput in the decisive 36-hole final, showcasing exceptional resilience and skill. Early in the match, Patel led by two strokes after the first 18 holes. Despite Rajput's efforts to narrow the gap, Patel maintained his advantage, sealing the title on the 17th hole. Patel's performance was marked by an outstanding eagle on the 10th hole of the second 18, as well as several birdies throughout the final round.

He had previously reached the final of the Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship at Limuru Country Club, where he finished as runner-up. Rajput, too, had a strong tournament, defeating Jelani Kihanya and Kevin Anyien to reach the final. Ewan Widor of San Roque Golf Club secured third place in a thrilling 18-hole playoff, having led by three strokes at one point.

The NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship is a crucial event on the junior golf calendar, contributing points towards the JGF Order of Merit and providing both national recognition and valuable ranking opportunities.
