Let Belagavi Ganesh Utsav be a model to the country, says DC

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan called for the celebration of Belagavi's Ganesh Utsav to serve as a model for the entire country at a preparatory meeting on Thursday. The event, held at Kumar Gandharva Bhavan, brought together idol makers, Ganesh Mandals, and officials to emphasize the importance of harmony, peace, and order during the festival.

Roshan urged all participants to cooperate with the administration, implement CCTV cameras in pandals, and adhere to regulations concerning idol height, electrical decorations, and pandal construction. He noted that, as per Supreme Court orders, music systems must meet sound limits, DJs are prohibited, and obscene songs should not be played. A ban on loudspeaker usage after 10 p.m. was also emphasized.

Officials from all departments have already joined forces with the district administration to ensure the Utsav's success. L&T, responsible for water supply in Belagavi, has been directed to address potholes on main roads and complete pending works promptly. The Police Commissioner, Bhushan Borase, urged Mandals to collaborate with the police, acknowledging the city's population surge to approximately 14 lakh during the festival, with only around 1,540 police officers available. He stressed the need for regular patrols and stationary teams at sensitive locations.

BCC Deputy Mayor Hanumant Kongali pledged priority would be given to closing potholes, repairing roads, and cleaning the city and water bodies. He assured financial support for Ganesh Mandals to cover electricity bills and other facilities. BCC Commissioner Karthik M. revealed plans to deploy cranes, technicians, and diving experts near immersion points to oversee idol immersion.

Representatives from the Ganapati Utsav Mahamandal, including president Vikas Kalaghatagi and vice-president Sagar Patil, offered suggestions and submitted petitions. Mayor Preeti Kamakar, along with other party leaders, also addressed the gathering. Officials from various departments, including Probationary Officer Rohit Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police R. B. Basaragi, and the Deputy Director of Kannada and Culture, attended the meeting.
