Jury selected for trial of former gang leader accused of ordering Tupac Shakur’s killing

A jury of six men and ten women was chosen on Thursday to hear the case against Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former gang leader accused of orchestrating the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. Opening statements at the murder trial are expected to commence on Monday. The high-profile case has been eagerly anticipated by Shakur's family and fans who have waited for decades to uncover the truth behind the 1996 drive-by shooting that claimed the life of the legendary rapper at the peak of his career.

Shakur was just 25 when he was shot near the Las Vegas Strip, during a turbulent period in the music industry dominated by rival gang affiliations. In 2019, prosecutors charged Davis with murder, labeling him as the "shot caller" responsible for the crime. Davis has pleaded not guilty and faces a potential life sentence if convicted.

During the jury selection process, potential jurors were questioned about their favorite books, movies, any strong feelings towards gangs, and whether they had listened to Shakur's music. Shakur remains one of the most influential rappers of all time, with over 75 million records sold worldwide, including numerous albums released after his death, such as "California Love" and "Dear Mama."
