JPJ taps BoBoiBoy, PapaZola to help push road safety campaigns to Gen Z and younger audiences

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 - The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has partnered with animation studio Monsta Studios to promote road safety among younger Malaysians, particularly Gen Z. This collaboration falls under the broader initiative to bolster the nation's road safety agenda by leveraging digital content, animation, social media, and creative storytelling to convey safety messages.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook emphasized the importance of adapting safety communication to align with the evolving preferences of younger generations, who are more inclined towards digital content, animation, and creative storytelling. "Young people today are more engaged with digital content, animation, social media and creative storytelling," Loke noted during his speech at the Transport Ministry's monthly assembly and National Month celebrations launch.

The JPJ-Monsta Studios collaboration aims to deliver road safety messages in a more relatable and memorable format for the public, as traditional advertising methods like billboards, television, and newspapers are losing effectiveness due to declining audiences. Loke explained that video content has become the preferred language of younger generations, especially Gen Z, whose media consumption habits differ significantly from previous ones.

At a press conference, Loke also highlighted that the initiative targets schoolchildren. Monsta Studios, the Malaysian animation studio behind BoBoiBoy, Mechamato, and Papa Zola The Movie, expressed its eagerness to collaborate with JPJ and the Transport Ministry, viewing the partnership as a stepping stone for further cooperation between the public sector and the creative industry in effectively disseminating messages of public interest.
