Johor to add 5,000 smart CCTVs across Greater Johor Bahru in five years

The Johor government has announced plans to install 5,000 more smart closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Greater Johor Bahru over the next five years to enhance public safety. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor stated that the cameras will be installed in four local authority areas, including Johor Bahru City Council, Pasir Gudang City Council, Iskandar Puteri City Council, and Kulai Municipal Council.

The objective is to provide a safer environment for residents and visitors, thereby improving overall well-being. Additionally, the government will introduce more smart traffic lights, particularly in areas with high traffic flow rates, to optimize traffic management and minimize congestion. The installation of smart street lights across the state is also planned for enhanced convenience.

As of now, all 16 local authorities in Johor have achieved at least Level 1 Smart City status, with Mohd Jafni highlighting that MBJB is the sole local authority to attain Level 3 – Leading Smart City status. Johor officially became Malaysia's first Smart State five years ahead of its 2030 target.
