Jennifer Garner, 54, says there’s an advantage to becoming an entrepreneur later in life

Jennifer Garner, the 54-year-old actress, has expressed her enthusiasm for continuing to learn and take on new challenges in her entrepreneurial ventures later in life. Speaking on the Forbes Talks podcast, Garner said that becoming an entrepreneur later in her career has made it easier for her to embrace being a beginner and admit what she doesn't know.

She doesn't put undue pressure on herself by constantly checking the company's stock price, instead focusing solely on doing her job and trusting that the stock will follow.

Garner, who joined organic children's food company Once Upon a Farm as a cofounder in 2017, said she enjoys being the student in the room, always eager to learn. She mentioned that she's not motivated by the need to prove herself or be in charge, and that getting older hasn't dulled her desire to pursue what she wants or take on new challenges. Garner emphasized that she still feels "hungry" and values having something to strive for in her career.

The entrepreneur shares that celebrities like Ina Garten and Gwyneth Paltrow have also spoken about starting over as beginners in new industries. Garten, who bought the Barefoot Contessa store in 1978 with no food-business experience, appreciated the learning curve. Similarly, Paltrow admitted her unfamiliarity with business jargon when she first started Goop and made a conscious effort to ask questions and not be intimidated by her lack of knowledge.
