Israel killed head of police force, Gaza’s ministry of interior says

On Thursday, Israeli air strikes in Gaza resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a senior police official from Gaza city. The first strike targeted two people on a motorcycle in a western part of Khan Younis, resulting in one fatality and another person being injured. Israel claimed the target was a Hamas commander planning an attack on their troops.

The second strike involved a drone firing three missiles at a vehicle in Gaza city's Sheikh Ajleen neighborhood. This attack led to the death of one person and injuries to two others. Gaza's Interior Ministry confirmed the death of police colonel Jamal Abu Kamal.

Israel released a video of the attack, stating that the victim was a Hamas commander involved in the October 7 attacks. Earlier that week, the Israeli military reported conducting an air strike to neutralize a threat to their troops. Gaza medics reported a critically wounded individual in an attack in Beit Lahia, located in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

These strikes came after a week-long lull in Israeli attacks, induced by pressure from the US to consider President Donald Trump's peace plan. According to this proposal, Hamas would gradually disarm as Israel withdrew from Gaza. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected the plan on Sunday. Hamas expressed their willingness to implement the deal, contingent upon Israel fulfilling its commitments, such as withdrawal and a cessation of attacks.
