Interior Minister orders IGP to probe and take disciplinary action over custody breach

The Ministry of Interior in Ghana has instructed the Inspector-General of Police to investigate a breach of police custody that occurred when an arrested individual was assaulted by a civilian. The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called for a thorough inquiry into how the civilian gained access to the detained person and whether any police officers allowed or enabled the incident.

He has also ordered that any police officer found responsible for the breach should face disciplinary action. The Inspector-General has been tasked with immediately identifying, arresting, and investigating the civilians involved, in line with the law. Furthermore, the Minister has directed police to question all supervising officers who were in charge of the custody of the arrested individuals.

This directive is meant to ensure accountability for the alleged custody violation and maintain the rule of law. The incident came after a viral video showed a civilian slapping an arrested pastor for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad, igniting public outrage and calls for an investigation into the security breach and assault.
