Honor’s Robot Phone is finally up for grabs, and it may be the most ambitious camera phone yet

The Robot Phone, a robot-arm camera phone, has finally become available to consumers after a year of development. Launched by Chinese company Honor, the device is priced at RMB 9,999 (~$1,480) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, or RMB 12,999 (~$1,930) for the higher-end configuration featuring 16GB of RAM and a full terabyte of storage. Pre-orders opened on August 18, with retail availability expected by the same date.

Despite its premium price, the Robot Phone boasts an impressive array of specifications, including a metal unibody design, a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and 6,800 nits of peak brightness, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a 7,060mAh battery with fast charging capabilities. The standout feature is its 200MP f/1.6 main camera, mounted on a robotic arm that can perform stabilized tracking shots.

The camera system is powered by a partnership with cinema camera company ARRI, resulting in an advanced H1 Image Chip that supports 10-bit ARRI LogC3 recording, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 color, and real-time ARRI Looks previews. The gimbal mechanism, capable of moving at up to 360 degrees per second, features over 100 patented components and is designed to be 65 percent smaller and 200 percent stronger than traditional gimbals. The Robot Phone also offers AI Subject Tracking and gesture controls for hands-free operation.
