Gift Of Life Beyond Death: Thane Regional Mental Hospital Spearheads Organ Donation Awareness Campaign Under 'Jug Jug Jio Abhiyan'

Thane Regional Mental Hospital has launched an organ donation awareness campaign called Jug Jug Jio Abhiyan, in collaboration with Maharashtra's Public Health Department. The initiative, spearheaded by Medical Superintendent Dr. Netaji Mulik, aims to educate people about the life-saving potential of organ donation and dispel misconceptions surrounding it.

As part of the campaign, a mass pledge drive saw healthcare workers, patients, visitors, and students commit to organ donation after their death. Digital registrations via QR codes were introduced to make the process more accessible. Informative posters and exhibits were also placed throughout the hospital to clarify the legal, medical, and procedural aspects of organ donation.

The campaign sought to destigmatize mental healthcare within the institution, emphasizing that individuals struggling with mental health conditions can still make significant contributions to society. This approach aimed to sensitize the community and advocate for greater participation of mental health care recipients in social welfare programs.

Dr. Mulik stressed that organ donation is a noble pledge that can provide a second chance at life to multiple patients in need. The campaign encourages ongoing awareness, stating that raising awareness about organ donation should not be limited to a fortnight but should reach every corner of society.
