Former Chargers RB Hassan Haskins signs with AFC rival

Former Los Angeles Chargers running back Hassan Haskins has signed with AFC opponent the New England Patriots, according to wire reports. In turn, the Patriots released their own running back Myles Montgomery. The addition of Haskins bolsters the Patriots' backfield, which already features TreVeyon Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Lan Larison.

Haskins had been claimed off waivers by the Chargers in late August 2024, following two seasons with the team in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old amassed 51 rushing attempts for 136 yards and two touchdowns across 29 games, achieving an average of 2.7 yards per carry. His final match with the Chargers occurred during the AFC Wild Card round against the Patriots in January.

Before joining the Chargers, Haskins was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, as the 131st overall pick. Haskins played college football at the University of Michigan from 2018 to 2021, where he was recognized as a second-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten in his senior year of 2021. He participated in 32 collegiate games, accumulating 2,324 yards and 30 touchdowns on 452 rushing attempts, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

The Chargers released Haskins at the end of the offseason, replacing him with Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal. The Los Angeles backfield now boasts a promising future, spearheaded by second-year player Omarion Hampton.
