Fishmonger pleads guilty to chasing man with cleaver, taking meth

A 55-year-old fishmonger, Zawawi Zahid, pleaded guilty in a Kuala Terengganu court to two charges - criminal intimidation and self-administering methamphetamine. According to prosecutors, Zahid chased a man with a meat cleaver at a petrol station on Jalan Pasir Panjang around 4:30pm on August 9. The act of criminal intimidation, as outlined in Section 506 of the Penal Code, could result in up to seven years of imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Zahid also pleaded guilty to consuming methamphetamine on July 9 under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum penalty of RM5,000 in fines or up to two years in prison. He was released on RM3,000 bail for each case. The sentencing has been set for August 27. Zahid was represented by attorney Nurul Husna Zulkepli and Nur Jawahir Zulmajdi from the National Legal Aid Foundation, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Anith Nabilah Rusli prosecuted the case.
