FIFA election to decide Infantino’s future in March, says Motsepe

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has stated that the outcome of the FIFA election in March will determine the future of FIFA chief Gianni Infantino. In an interview with Sky News, Motsepe explained that the 211 member associations of FIFA will decide Infantino's fate in the election, set to take place during the organization's 77th Congress in Rabat, Morocco on March 18.

The CAF president noted that Infantino is facing criticism from three continental bodies - UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF - for his leadership and failure to attract private investment to FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup. Motsepe emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation within football institutions, urging focus on developing and growing the game amidst current challenges.

He also highlighted the need to address and resolve issues rather than allowing them to impact football's future. Motsepe stressed that football officials should accept accountability and oversight, asserting that FIFA has procedures for handling complaints or objections. He added that if anyone has objections to Infantino or other FIFA officials, they should follow the official procedures, as those seeking a change in leadership can do so through the election.

Motsepe reaffirmed CAF's support for Infantino, stating that he has been dedicated to African football and has Africa's support.
