EPL: He played World Cup, UCL – Nicky Butt names best signing of summer

Former Manchester United player Nicky Butt has declared that the club's acquisition of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35m is the "best signing of the summer" prior to the upcoming 2026/27 Premier League campaign. Manchester United has signed a series of players, including Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson, Cristian Orozco, and Tynan Thompson in an effort to strengthen manager Michael Carrick's squad this summer.

However, Butt asserts that the Red Devils have already made the standout signing of the transfer window with the acquisition of Tielemans, who represented Belgium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and also played for Aston Villa in the Champions League last season. On The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Butt remarked, "I think Youri Tielemans is the best signing of the transfer window.

Considering his fee, age, experience—he's played in the Champions League and World Cups—and his skill set, he's a fantastic player. This is a brilliant signing for Manchester United."
