Ella Langley Co-Writer JoyBeth Taylor On ‘Choosin’ Texas’ and ‘I Can’t Love You Anymore’: ‘My Whole Career Changed When I Found My Crew’

Nashville songwriter JoyBeth Taylor recently spoke about her work with fellow songwriter Ella Langley and how it has transformed her career. Taylor's new Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 single, "I Can't Love You Anymore" featuring Langley and Morgan Wallen, came about when Langley called Taylor at 7:30 PM to ask if she could come to the studio.

Taylor explained that this call came two weeks after her son was born, and her husband encouraged her to go write a song. Taylor was grateful for showing up that day, as it led to a productive collaboration with Langley.

Taylor's recent success includes the record-breaking "Choosin' Texas," a 17-week Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper written with Langley, Miranda Lambert and Luke Dick. "I Can't Love You Anymore" also topped the Country Airplay chart for three weeks and held the No. 1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart for 35 weeks. Taylor attributes the song's staying power to its familiar melody and the emotional connection it evokes, which she feels is enhanced by Langley's melodic talent.

Taylor's fruitful collaboration with Langley began in 2020 with their first song together and has continued through multiple projects, including Langley's 2024 debut album Hungover and 2026 sophomore project Dandelion. Taylor has co-written several hit songs for Langley, including "Weren't For The Wind" which reached No. 2 on the Country Airplay chart, "Dandelion," "That's Why We Fight" with Koe Wetzel, and "Speaking Terms" that earned Langley a GMA Dove Awards nomination.

Taylor credits her success to her immersion in country music from a young age and her dedication to learning from legendary songwriter-pianists like Travis Meadows, Tony Lane and Natalie Hemby. She also acknowledges the importance of her connection with Langley, who she met in 2019 and has since co-written multiple hit songs. Taylor's ongoing partnership with Langley has positioned her as one of the most successful artist-writer duos in country music.
