Egypt urges media accuracy after reports on ship targeted off Yemen

Egypt's Foreign Ministry has urged both Arab and international media to verify their reports on Egyptian matters, especially after recent claims of a ship being attacked off the coast of Yemen. The ministry reiterated its request for accurate reporting and requested that media outlets source information directly from official Egyptian sources. This call for precision came in response to various media outlets and social media reports about the Houthi attack on a ship named TIHAMA near Yemen's shores.

The ministry clarified crucial details regarding the TIHAMA vessel, stating it is flagged under Tanzania, owned by a Yemeni individual, and managed by Blue Sea for Management Marine from Dubai, UAE. It emphasized that the ship is not registered with any Egyptian shipping chambers nor holds a license to operate under Egypt's maritime transport and logistics sector.

Furthermore, the ministry confirmed that the TIHAMA has never docked at Egyptian ports nor was it en route to Egypt at the time of the reported incident. Importantly, it clarified that the vessel was not carrying any cargo belonging to Egyptian citizens.

The Foreign Ministry highlighted its dedicated efforts to oversee all matters concerning Egypt's territorial waters, the security and stability of the Mediterranean and Red Seas, and the safeguarding of Egyptian companies, vessels, and seafarers. It strongly encouraged all media organizations to double-check any information related to the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, urging them to source accurate details directly from the official government channels, including the Ministry of Transport.
