The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered over N115 billion and $84 million in unpaid levies owed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by 24 oil companies, according to Mr. Francis Oka-Phillips Usani, the EFCC representative. Of those, 24 companies operating in the Niger Delta were found to have outstanding liabilities of N76.883 billion and $81.077 million for the three percent statutory levy to the NDDC.
The remaining 19 companies were cleared after the investigation. Some of the indebted companies have already paid back N6.709 billion and $16.994 million directly to the NDDC. In total, N73.373 billion and $67.070 million have been released to the NDDC, with the remaining N3.510 billion and $14.005 million still in the EFCC's recovery account.
