Draper slumps to first-round loss in Cincinnati

British tennis player Jack Draper suffered a disappointing first-round exit at the Cincinnati Open, losing 6-3, 7-5 to Spain's Martin Landaluce. Despite leading 5-2 in the second set, Draper failed to convert six crucial set points and ultimately lost to the 20-year-old opponent. The former world number four, who is 24, was playing his second match since his return from injury.

Draper, who was recently ranked as low as 160th, struggled with an arm injury that kept him sidelined for a significant portion of the year, causing his ranking to plummet. Since injuring his shoulder during the US Open in August, he has dealt with bone bruising, ultimately leading to his absence from Wimbledon and the Washington Open.

Despite not appearing to be injured against Landaluce, Draper appeared fatigued and lost confidence once the Spaniard reached 5-5 in the second set. Draper has sought the help of biomechanics expert Carlos Cano in an attempt to address his injury issues, with the 61-year-old Mexican having previously assisted Arthur Fery in becoming British number one.
