Depression in Bay to trigger light to moderate rain in A.P.

A weather system forming in the Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal-Bangladesh borders is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to Andhra Pradesh this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On August 12, a low-pressure area began to develop and intensified into a depression on Thursday. The depression, situated roughly 40 km southeast of Kolkata and 260 km east-southeast of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, is likely to move northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand within the next day, as reported by the IMD's bulletin at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

As a result of this weather system, coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh could experience light to moderate showers and thunderstorms until August 16. The IMD also predicts the potential for isolated strong surface winds, with speeds ranging from 40kmph to 50 kmph, across the state during the same period. Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in specific districts, including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram-Manyam, and Alluri Sitharama Raju on Thursday and Friday.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall at a few stations on Thursday.

As of 11 a.m. on Thursday, only Kadiri in Sri Sathya Sai district and Peddapuram in Kakinada district had recorded any significant rainfall, with each location receiving around 11 mm of light rain. Since the beginning of the month, Andhra Pradesh has received about-normal rainfall following a dry July, with a statewide rainfall deficit of 50.6%.
