Court allows withdrawal of case against 25 BJP leaders, Hindu activists in 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots: Report

A special court in India recently permitted the prosecution to withdraw a case against 25 BJP leaders and Hindu activists accused of involvement in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. The individuals, including Uttar Pradesh minister Kapil Dev Agarwal and former Union minister Sanjeev Balyan, were charged with violating prohibitory orders, obstructing public servants, and inciting communal tension during a mahapanchayat in July 2013.

The case was filed following the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to withdraw the charges, according to Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate/MP-MLA court judge Devendra Kumar Faujdar. The 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots resulted in over 60 deaths and displaced more than 40,000 people.
