Clippers Send Message to Russell Westbrook After NBA Retirement

Russell Westbrook's 18-year NBA career came to an end on Wednesday with his announcement of retirement. A nine-time All-Star, the 37-year-old began his professional journey as part of a talented young trio alongside Kevin Durant and James Harden in Oklahoma City. The trio faced off in the NBA Finals in 2012, losing to a Miami Heat squad featuring LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade.

After stints with teams like the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sacramento Kings, Westbrook concluded his career with the Los Angeles Clippers, a team he reconnected with in 2023.

In a social media post, the Clippers expressed their admiration for Westbrook's legendary career, sending a clear message of support. Over his final season with the Clippers, Westbrook averaged an impressive 12.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 5 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per game across 89 games.

Reaching the NBA Finals with the Thunder in 2012, Westbrook concluded his career as the NBA's all-time leader in triple-doubles, and one of only three players ever to average a triple-double in a single season. Despite never winning an NBA championship, the former Washington Wizards star holds numerous records, including being a two-time scoring leader and three-time assists leader, and being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

Although he's never won a championship, there's no doubt that Westbrook will be inducted into the Hall of Fame based on his extraordinary accomplishments. With his career drawing to a close, Westbrook will likely turn his attention to other pursuits and interests.
