Chittoor Collector calls for increased awareness on organ donation

On Thursday, District Collector Sumit Kumar urged for greater public awareness on organ and body donation, emphasizing the critical need to reduce the disparity between the demand for organs and their availability. Speaking at an awareness program organized by the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and Apollo University, Mr. Kumar pointed out that around 4,800 individuals in Andhra Pradesh were waiting for kidney transplants, with only approximately 350 transplants performed each year.

He encouraged the community to adopt a volunteer mindset and view organ donation as a significant contribution to society in times of emergencies. Kumar also underscored the necessity of simplifying clinical procedures and setting up additional transplant centers to address the escalating demand. He highlighted that continuous awareness campaigns were crucial to dispel false beliefs and motivate more individuals to willingly donate their organs and bodies.

Later, he inaugurated an awareness rally that traversed key areas of the Chittoor Municipal Corporation.
