Cambodia's trade turnover reaches $44B in 7 months

Cambodia's trade turnover surged to $44 billion within a seven-month period, according to data released by the General Department of Customs and Excise on August 10. Exports grew by 21.3%, reaching $20.81 billion, while imports increased by 21.4% to $23.26 billion, resulting in a widening trade deficit of $1.99 billion compared to the previous year.

The most significant growth was observed in trade with China, which is Cambodia's largest trading partner by value. Chinese exports to Cambodia rose by 24.2% to $1.1 billion, indicating a steady demand for Cambodian goods. Conversely, Chinese imports to Cambodia expanded by 23.8% to $12.52 billion.

The United States remained Cambodia's largest exporter, with bilateral trade jumping 32.2% to $9.42 billion. Cambodian exports to the U.S. surged by 30.6% to $9.05 billion, fueled by robust growth in garments, footwear, and other manufactured products. However, imports from the U.S. more than doubled, increasing by 87% to $377 million, suggesting the development of stronger bilateral trade relationships.

Vietnam also emerged as a key trade partner for Cambodia, with trade volumes growing by 8.2% to $5.35 billion. Cambodian exports to Vietnam increased by 12.4% to $2.73 billion, while imports rose by 4.2% to $2.62 billion.
