Botswana urges SADC leaders to discuss regional integration

Botswana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Phenyo Butale, has called on leaders of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit in Durban to prioritize regional integration during their meeting. Butale specifically suggested discussing trade and the movement of people across borders as a means to achieve shared prosperity among member countries.

The issue of migration has become a contentious topic, with South Africans protesting against undocumented migrants in recent months. Butale believes that the migration matter should be addressed at the highest level to find a solution that ensures prosperity for all countries and their citizens.

According to Butale, migration should not be seen as an escape from hunger or starvation, but rather an opportunity for individuals to find work and contribute to their respective nations' growth. He emphasized that the focus should be on creating a situation where every country thrives, allowing people to move freely and pursue opportunities wherever they may be.

The SADC ministers are currently convened to review decisions made at previous summits, providing a platform for Butale's proposal to be considered and potentially incorporated into future policies that promote regional integration in the Southern African region.
