Bomb threat sends Singapore’s Xinmin Secondary students, staff out of school as police find no suspicious items

On August 13, Xinmin Secondary School in Hougang, Singapore, was evacuated due to a bomb threat, with classes resuming after authorities found no suspicious items during a search of the premises. Police were alerted to the potential threat around 8:20am, and the school activated its evacuation procedures at 8:28am. The school assured parents and guardians that all students and staff were accounted for.

The incident is being treated as a case of communicating false information of a harmful thing, with a conviction potentially resulting in up to seven years in prison, a fine of up to S$50,000 (RM159,600), or both. One parent, who chose to remain anonymous, received the school's message through the Parents Gateway app at around 10am and expressed confidence in the school's handling of the situation, citing the quick evacuation and thorough checks.

Details regarding the delivery of the bomb threat and the duration of the disruption were not immediately available. The school and Ministry of Education have been contacted for additional information.
