Benue: Woman posing as nurse steals newborn baby

In the early hours of Tuesday, a newborn baby boy was allegedly abducted from a healthcare facility in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. According to reports, the infant, along with his mother, had been taken to a ward for post-delivery care. A nurse on duty noticed the baby did not cry after birth and intervened, claiming she needed to conduct another examination.

A woman, posing as a nurse, approached the mother, took the baby, and fled towards the labor room. The baby's grandmother, suspicious of the situation, followed the woman but was told to move away by the alleged nurse. The grandmother complied, and the woman disappeared with the baby. Hospital staff later denied employing the woman who had posed as a nurse, causing panic and distress among relatives, sympathizers, and other concerned individuals.

The Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident took place at a healthcare center in Gboko but was transferred to Makurdi for further investigation due to the level of attention it had garnered. The police are currently investigating the case, and additional information will be released once more facts are established.
