Attention cat lovers! A cat museum has opened in Mexico City

A cat museum called Museo del Gato has recently opened in Mexico City, offering cat lovers a unique experience. The museum's founders, Esther Garcilita and Marco Sotomayor, began with a cat café called La Gatería in 2015, which quickly gained popularity in Latin America. In the following decade, their vision evolved into an immersive museum dedicated to cats and their relationship with humans.

Visitors can enjoy guided tours led by the museum's mascot, a calico named Sissi, and explore three thematic rooms showcasing the history of cats, feline language, and their connection with humans. The museum stands out with its interactive approach, featuring giant animatronic cats, projection mapping, and a virtual reality simulator.

In addition to its artistic and educational aspects, the Museo del Gato also supports animal welfare. A portion of ticket sales goes towards funding a mobile spay-and-neuter unit for stray cats and dogs, promoting humane management of the city's stray animal population.

Planning a visit to the cat museum is straightforward. It officially opened on August 8 and is located at Paseo de la Reforma 87, 4th floor, Colonia Tabacalera, Alcaldía Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. General admission costs 350 pesos Monday through Thursday and 385 pesos Friday through Sunday, with tickets purchasable through the official website or the Fever platform.

Due to limited entry to small groups of up to 60 people per hour, it is recommended to book a time slot in advance.
