Artist Behind Viral Spider-Man: Brand New Day Poster Forced to Take Drawing Down

Drake Landon, the artist behind the viral Spider-Man: Brand New Day poster known as 'Spooderman,' has revealed his identity after his workplace forced him to take down the drawing. The Cineplex theater where Landon worked had not received an official poster for the film, so he created his own illustration as a solution. The charming 'Spooderman' became an internet sensation, but his employer was not pleased.

On August 12, a Reddit user claiming to be Landon announced he would reveal himself, stating that his boss had been called by Cineplex's head office requesting the poster to be removed. Landon managed to retrieve his artwork, which he plans to sell as prints or redrawn duplicates. Despite the setback, Landon received a free booth at a local comic convention due to his newfound popularity, although he believes his other work won't be as well-received.

Landon explained that the distributor responsible for delivering the official materials mistakenly sent them to the wrong location. The Spider-Man: Brand New Day film has been a box office hit, breaking records and surpassing Avengers: Endgame's domestic opening weekend earnings. IGN's Tom Jorgensen gave it a 7 out of 10 rating, praising its focus on Spider-Man's inner struggles, action scenes, and cool visuals.
