Anti-encroachment drive underway in Gurgaon, 60 km of road space reclaimed so far

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has launched an anti-encroachment drive, reclaiming more than 60 kilometres of road space within the city nine days after promising to do so within two weeks. The project has targeted major roads in Old Gurgaon, Golf Course Extension Road, the Southern Peripheral Road, and newer areas heading towards Manesar.

On Monday, enforcement teams cleared around 16 kilometres, and by Thursday, they had reclaimed nearly 25 kilometres in New Gurgaon, bringing the total reclaimed right of way (RoW) to over 60 kilometres. The campaign has focused on clearing illegal ramps constructed over public stormwater drains and demolishing illegally extended boundary walls and private structures within green belts.

Despite recent re-encroachments, GMDA officials plan to continue the drive in a phased manner, conducting regular surveillance to prevent re-occupation of reclaimed land.
